Ubuntu designers: drop the brown!
Get over the brown. Seriously guys… it just looks plain outdated. I keep seeing all these mockups for the new release all over the net which to me not only look exactly the same but are plain fugly. Ubuntu is a great OS, I love it, I have it in every computer I own, but first thing I do when I install it is change de default appearance, the brown/orangey theme just sucks. Let’s try and make a whitish, grayish, bluish theme, those are more desktop colors, nicer on the eyes and go with any wallpaper you throw at your screen. (Via Digg)

I agree…there should be more “default” themes available…isn’t Linux supposed to be about freedom? How is it freedom if I have only one choice?

I actually like the brown themes - I think that way too many OSs and web pages are going for the shiny, plastic, web 2.0 look, and that Ubuntu sticks out because it is unique. But then again, there is a lot of anti-brown out there and I fully support having several official themes, not just the default. These should be easy enough to install with a click.

well john I actually agree that not everything has to be shiny and glossy… but it could be better, brown is just.. crappy. And for the last 3 or 4 Ubuntu releases we’ve had the same look.

Why does it matter? it is so easy to change the theme in Gnome. Go to http://gnome-look.org/ and get whichever theme you like. That is what freedom is all about.
